How To Add a Job to Prism Tree

The recommended way to add a job is to copy the entire job posting from any website and paste it into Prism Tree. This works on LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, company career pages — anywhere you're reading a listing.

The fastest way: paste the full page

The recommended way to add a job is to copy the entire job posting from any website and paste it into Prism Tree. This works on LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, company career pages — anywhere you're reading a listing.

On the job page, press Ctrl+A (or Cmd+A on Mac) to select everything, then Ctrl+C to copy. Go to Jobs in the left nav, click + Add Job, and choose Paste Description. Paste the text into the field and click Extract Details.

Prism Tree reads the raw text and pulls out the job title, company, location, salary (if listed), and full job description. You'll see a pre-filled form with what it found — review the fields, make any corrections, and click Save. The whole process takes about 15 seconds.

This method works where URL scraping often can't, because it doesn't depend on Prism Tree being able to access the site directly. LinkedIn requires a login. Many ATS-hosted job pages block external requests. Pasting the text sidesteps all of that — you're just handing Prism Tree what you already have in front of you.

What gets extracted

When you paste a job description, Prism Tree parses the following fields automatically:

  • Job title — pulled from the posting header or the first clear title reference in the text.

  • Company — extracted from the company name in the header, the "About us" section, or a line like "CompanyName is looking for..." in the description body.

  • Location — city and state from the posting details. Remote and hybrid designations are captured when present.

  • Salary — extracted when the posting includes a range. Many postings don't include salary, so this field will be blank if nothing was found.

  • Job description — the full posting text, cleaned of sidebar noise and navigation elements. This is what Prism Tree uses when running fit score analysis, generating a cover letter, or building interview prep.

After extraction, all fields are editable before you save. If the parser got something wrong — which can happen with unusual posting formats — just correct it in the form.

Other ways to add a job
  • Paste a URL — If you have a direct link to the job posting, you can click Paste Job URL and drop the URL in. Prism Tree will try to scrape the page and extract job details automatically. This works reliably for publicly accessible pages, but will fail or return incomplete data for jobs behind a login wall (most LinkedIn jobs, for example). When scraping fails, Prism Tree opens the form with the URL pre-filled so you can add the rest manually.

  • Add manually — Click Add Manually to open a blank form and fill in the fields yourself. This is useful when you're adding a job from a conversation, a referral, or a source that isn't a standard web page.

After you save

Once a job is saved, it appears in your Jobs list and on the Pipeline board with a status of Found. From there you can run a fit score analysis, generate a cover letter or tailored resume, create interview prep, or update the status as you move through the process.

The job description you saved is what powers all of those features. The better the description Prism Tree has, the more specific its output will be — which is one more reason the paste method is worth the extra copy step.
